While making the Halloween Frankenstein cake for my niece, my daughter’s school PTA called me asking if I could make a cake for her school carnival. I missed out on this opportunity last year  because we were leaving town to celebrate my son’s first birthday, so I was very happy to do it this year. My daughter, Leah didn’t want to make the same cake as we made for me niece so we decided on a Spider cake. I made it pink and purple for my her, since those are her favorite colors. According to the guy running the cake walk during the carnival, this was one of the first cakes to go!

While visiting my parents this past week, my sister mentioned to me that my niece’s class was having a cake contest on Friday. I was very excited and volunteered to help my niece make it. We looked at a few cakes online to get ideas and she found one just like this one and fell in love. Fortunately, it was a very easy cake to make; unfortunately, all my cake decorating supplies were at home over 3 hours away. So, my niece and I headed to the craft store to pick up a few supplies then back to grandma’s house to whip it out.  It was so much fun being creative with my niece and… She won the contest!

Here is my newest creation. This cake I made was for my Aunt’s 50th birthday, my cousin’s 21st, and my cousin’s girlfriend’s 18th. They were landmark birthday’s for all and the party/celebration was FABULOUS!

You can also Click here to see this cake in the Birthday Cake section.

OK, so I said that I was going to start blogging more… Clearly that was not true. BUT, in my defense I got another job. I am working in the mornings as well as in the evenings, it is very tiring, so it is only lasting until the evening job finds my replacement. I did like both of the jobs okay, but working two proved to be a little too much and I like the hours and the fact that the morning job is with preschoolers. I LOVE preschoolers.

I am very, very excited because I have 3 upcoming cakes (it took my fingers 3 tries to type upcoming… they kept wanting to type Cupcake. HA!) Ok, back to cakes. This upcoming weekend is my husbands birthday party. His actual birthday is tomorrow, Happy Birthday Jason! Then the following weekend I am making a 2nd birthday cake for my best friends daughter, Emma. Then on the 17th I am making a joint birthday cake for my Aunt, my cousin and my cousin’s birthday… They are all milestone birthdays  so they are having a huge celebration. I am very, very excited! Ok, more to come soon!!

It’s a BOY! August 27, 2009

I… am… STOKED! (wow, I haven’t used that word in a LONG time) OK, so not only do I get to make a cake this weekend (Yay!) but I get to make a baby shower cake… FOR  A BOY!  I have not done this yet… seriously. Girls are prominent right now.  I love pinks, pastels and browns.  But, it’s getting old.  In my immediate family (my poor dad) I have two sisters, two nieces and one daughter.  So, my dad has ALL girls. Three daughters and three granddaughters. Wow, that just reminded me that I had a dream last night that my middle sister had a baby…  it was girl.  Weird.  OK! Back to cake stuff!  I am very excited to get to make a cake that is blues, greens, yellows, and turtles.  Pictures will be posted on Saturday after I deliver it.

Yesterday I worked my first substitute teaching job. It was in a toddler preschool. I LOVED it. As soon as I got home I got to work on my cakes. I made a cake for a High school friend, it is her daughter’s first birthday. The bottom tier was vanilla cake with chocolate filling. The top tier was chocolate cake with peanut butter filling… Probably my new favorite. You can find that cake in the Birthday Cakes section.  She also had a bakers dozen chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting, YUM!

My second cake was for my daughter’s new preschool teacher. She was throwing a baby shower. Her cake was vanilla cake with Raspberry filling in the bottom tier and vanilla cake with Lemon filling in the top. You can find that cake in the Shower Cakes section.

My third cake has not yet been delivered. And as a personal rule I will not post a photo of a cake until the recipient of the cake has received it. I like to keep the cakes a surprise. I am leaving for a vacation tomorrow and I don’t know if I will have internet access. If I do I will post it on Monday. If not, you will have to wait until next Monday to see it.
